PacketStorm Communications Announces The Hurricane – Industry’s First Complete Gigabit Line Rate IP Network Emulator

Eatontown, New Jersey (May 28, 2002)
PacketStorm® Communications introduced today the latest generation of their award winning lineup of IP Network Emulators – The Hurricane™.

Building on the past successes of PacketStorm’s line of emulators, the Hurricane offers true Gigabit Ethernet bi-directional line rate throughput as well as all of the features found in previous PacketStorm emulators. Initially, the Hurricane is targeted at Storage and Video applications since these applications require full Gigabit bandwidth network emulation. The Hurricane has a unique feature called Bit Pattern Filtering™. Bit Pattern Filtering™ enables users to assign an impairment profile to packets with a specific field value. One application is assigning impairment profiles to specific iSCSI or FCIP traffic.

“While the Hurricane is an exciting addition to our extensive line of IP Network Emulators, it can also be viewed as the next logical step that we’re taking to continue to offer tools that lead the industry” says James Rodden, PacketStorm’s Director of Marketing.

“When we released the industry’s first complete IP Network Emulator, we knew we wanted to take network emulation further than any other company. With today’s announcement, we’ve done just that. PacketStorm is the only company that can offer an IP Network Emulator with true Gigabit Ethernet bi-directional line rate processing and advanced network emulation capabilities on the market. Nobody else comes close to our speed, ease of use, functionality, and level of customer support.”

The Hurricane offers full legacy compatibility with all previous models of PacketStorm IP Network Emulators. An extensive list of network interfaces is available for the Hurricane including 10/100, Gigabit Ethernet, T1/E1, v.35, E3, DS3, OC-3 and OC-12. Features include an award winning GUI, an extensive library of network impairments and packet modifiers, advanced ToS and DiffServ filtering, dynamic time-varying emulation, packet generation and analysis, statistics monitoring, traffic conditioning, and network characteristic capturing.

The Hurricane is available immediately. There is an upgrade path for current customers of the PacketStorm1800E and PacketStorm2600E emulators. For more information contact PacketStorm Communications, Inc. at (732) 544-2434 or via their website,
