PacketStorm Communications Announces IP Network Emulator

MT. LAUREL (October 1,2000) – PacketStorm Communications announces the PacketStorm1800E IP Network Emulator. The PacketStorm1800E IP Network Emulator impairs and modifies IP packets for applications such as VoIP, streaming video, and service level agreement Quality of Service (QoS) testing.
The emulator provides controllable and repeatable IP network conditions in the lab essential to both IP hardware and software developers. In addition, the emulator addresses QoS testing applications by providing Differentiated Service (Diff Serv) emulation.

The PacketStorm1800E IP Network Emulator impairs and modifies IP packets for applications such as VoIP, streaming video, and service level agreement Quality of Service (QoS) testing. The emulator provides controllable and repeatable IP network conditions in the lab essential to both IP hardware and software developers. In addition, the emulator addresses QoS testing applications by providing Differentiated Service (Diff Serv) emulation.

QoS is becoming critical as voice and data applications converge onto the IP network. The PacketStorm1800E provides a comprehensive selection of functions (ToS, Diff Serv, traffic conditioning, and multiple interfaces) that allow developers and end users to thoroughly test their QoS applications. The emulator provides five ToS service levels and sixty-four Diff Serv service levels. Each level has independent impairment and modifier profiles. Traffic conditioning emulates the queuing consequences of Service Level Agreements at the edge of the network. Out-of-profile packets can be re-marked for another level, policed (dropped), or shaped (queued until they are in profile).

In addition to ToS and Diff Serv filtering, the PacketStorm1800E filters packets by source address, destination address, source port, destination port, and protocol. The emulator provides up to thirty-two streams simultaneously. Each stream has an independent profile of impairments and modifiers. The emulator can display the in-use bandwidth, packet total, and byte total for every stream.

The emulator supports 10/100 Ethernet, T1, E1, DS3, E3, and OC-3. The wide selection of interfaces allows developers and end users to emulate conditions between many types of network equipment.
