The PacketStorm1800E IP network emulator provides WAN emulation and network simulation. The PacketStorm1800E emulates any network condition in a repeatable and controllable lab setting. To re-create any network condition, the emulator can impair IP and non-IP traffic, provide dynamic, time-varying impairments, and use a fully independent and flexible GUI architecture. Data generation provides network simulation without utilizing network resources or equipment.
The PacketStorm1800E is one of our general purpose network emulators. This network emulator can recreate any network scenario for any application. Network emulation is implemented by using the following impairments: Delay, Jitter, Decimate, Drop, DropNOW, Reorder, Throttle, Duplicate, Burst Drop, Bit Error, Packet Accumulate & Burst, Fragment, MOS, Insert Data, Delete Data, Frame Relay, RTP Sequence Drop, FEC Aware, and Active Video.
To be a general purpose network emulator, the PacketStorm1800E has a full selection of modifiers, filters, and statistics. Modifiers include: Source Address, Destination Address, ToS, DSCP, TTL, Protocol, Transport Checksum, Network Checksum, Source Port, Destination Port, Fragment, MPLS, VLAN, MAC, Universal, IPv6, Pseudo Ethernet, RTP, and MPEG2-TS. Filters include: Source Address, Destination Address, Source Port, Destination Port, Protocol, ToS, DSCP, Packet Length, MPLS, VLAN, Universal, Bit Pattern, IPv6, PPPoE, RTP Sequence, and MPEG2-TS. Statistics include: Bandwidth, Delay, Loss, R-factor, MOS, Delay Factor, Media Loss Rate, Bytes, and Packets.
Using the PacketStorm1800E is very easy. The user connects to the network emulator either by using a web browser or a keyboard, mouse, and monitor. PacketStorm1800E has two GUI modes: Basic and Standard. Basic mode is for the beginner or novice user who only needs to enable check boxes to create impairments and network links. The Standard GUI mode provides the user full flexibility to draw any network scenario with any order of impairments, modifiers, and statistics. With both GUI modes, the filter and impairment parameters of every link are displayed during emulation for ease of use. The various statistic tools can be located multiple times in a network emulation and placed anywhere with a network emulation. Configuration settings can be stored and recalled. The network emulator has two different capture methods: network and packet. Network Capture captures the delay and loss characteristics between the emulator and a remote device with a IP address. Also, the user can create their own custom delay and loss capture and use it like any other impairment. In fact, the network emulator can have a library of thousands of custom network captures. Packet Capture allows the user to capture at any point within the network emulation. In addition, Packet Capture can be implemented multiple times in the network emulation. Lastly, dynamic network emulation can be implemented by making impairment parameter “changes-on-the-fly” or by setting up a dynamic profile before network emulation has started.
