Welcome to another training session of the Packast Storm 400e Network Emulator. In this session, we’re going to discuss some basic tests to get you started.
In a previous session, we saved a configuration. To begin, go to the file menu, open, and select the saved file. This configuration includes a filter from source 1 to destination 2, with 100 milliseconds of delay and a bandwidth probe to monitor traffic through the link during the test.
If you want to set up a similar filter, you can draw a box around the existing setup, click the copy icon, and move the copied box to a new location. Double-click the icons to change their values. For example, we adjusted the second test to include a delay of 230 milliseconds and added a packet generator.
When the test starts, you can view link stats. The green indicators show packets flowing through both filters. The first filter has a latency of 100 milliseconds, and the second filter has a latency of 230 milliseconds. The bandwidth probes display approximately 1 megabit per second of bandwidth through each filter. After applying a 12% drop to the second link, the bandwidth probe shows a lower value compared to the first link.
To edit files, right-click on an icon or select it and press the delete key on your keyboard. If adjustments are needed, click the node in the middle of a link, delete it, and reconnect the desired components. This allows for quick edits and adjustments during testing.
You can save configurations and store them as separate tests, building a library of configurations for future use. The user interface is flexible and easy to navigate.
